Delaware County SPCA

The Delaware County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Delco SPCA) was established in 1911 with the original purpose of providing watering troughs for work horses around Delaware County. In 2012, the Delco SPCA became a lifesaving organization, reserving euthanasia only for animals that are incurably sick or too behaviorally aggressive to be adopted out into the community. In 2014, they placed a record 3,583 homeless pets into forever homes.

The Shelter Visits

Pedaling4Paws does not currently have an official visit planned for the Delaware County SPCA, but many of its riders and supporters do frequent this shelter. Please visit with the animals and let the shelter know you heard about their need through Pedaling4Paws!

Shelter Specific Info

The Delco SPCA cares for and adopts the pets they rescue from overcrowded shelters, pets that are relinquished by their owners as well as animals that have suffered cruelty and neglect. They are not breed-specific and have a loyalty to “bully” breeds like Pit Bulls. In addition to placing thousands of animals into forever homes, they promote responsible pet ownership and combat pet overpopulation through our pet retention programs such as low-cost public veterinary care –predominantly spaying and neutering – pet food banks, animal cruelty investigations and humane education.

The Delco SPCA is a 501c3 non-profit, charitable organization registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State. They are not affiliated with any local or state government or federal agency or any other SPCA or humane group. Their work is supported entirely by private donations.
